158th Gavel Meeting

158^th Meeting was held on 26^th November 2012 in the L-block. Toastmaster for the day was Pasan. Grammarian for the day was Sirimewan and the Ah-counter for the day was Vibhanu. General evaluator was Damith.

Topic master for the day was Akalanka. As always, it wasn’t a very difficult task for him to make the table topic session full of fun and laughter. And all the talented speakers made the table topic session very interesting with their imagination, experience and humor. Table topic evaluators were Kennady and Kanna.

157th Gavel meeting

157^th Meeting was held on the L-block. Toastmaster for the day was Hasini. Grammarian for the day was Pasan and Timer for the day was Vibhanu. General evaluator was Raja.

Topic master for the day was Hiran. All the speakers strived to keep the table topic session stays interesting, humorous and inspiring. Table topic evaluators were Yasir and Kanna.

156th Meeting

156^th Meeting was held on the L-block. Toastmaster for the day was Chandima. Round robin topic was also suggested by Chandima.Grammarian for the day was Pasan and Ah-counter for the day was Kasun.

Topic master for the day was Yasir. Topics were very interesting. All the speakers made sure that the table topic session stays interesting, humorous and inspiring. After the table topic session speech evaluators for the day, Raja & Niles gave their evaluations on each speaker.

Prepared speech was done by Hiran; Ice breaker, and evaluated by Amila.

155th Meeting

155^th Meeting was held on the L-block. It was a nice change from a while. And the crowd attended the meetings was quite high, which is a +1. Round robin topic for the day was, “Unpredictability” which was suggested by Chandima. Round robin session took a while to complete, since there more members than usual were present.

Topic master for the day was Rukshan Maliq. Topics were very interesting. Members present on that day, couldn’t resist making speeches. All the speakers made sure that the table topic session stays interesting, humorous and inspiring. After the table topic session, two evaluators for the day gave thorough evaluations about each speaker.

154th Meeting

154^th meeting of the Gavel Club was held at 215, Sumanadasa Building on 01/11/2012  and started at 5.16 p.m. 

This was an evening meeting of the club. Toastmaster for the day was Speech Olympiad finalist Yasir and the table topics session was conducted by club's president Niles. Therefore there was no doubt that the topics were interesting and very timely. Table topics were evaluated by Raja and Chandima. CL Evaluator for the day was Kenady

153rd Meeting

153^rd meeting of the Gavel Club was held at 215, Sumanadasa Building on 22/10/2012 at 5.23 p.m. 

Toastmaster for the day was Hiran and the table topics session was conducted by Amila. All the members spoke in the table topics session and Kenady along with Rukshan gave the evaluations about the table topic speeches.  Sachille Athapattu delivered his 2nd prepared speech and it was evaluated by Niles.

152nd Meeting

152^nd meeting of the Gavel Club was held at 215, Sumanadasa Building on 18/10/2012 at 5.36 p.m. 

This was the first meeting after the three months of academic strike and members were happy to have a Gavel Meeting in a non-restricted environment. Toastmaster for the day was Saumya and the table topics session was conducted by Hasitha. Almost all members spoke in the table topics session. Then Damith Senanayake delivered his 2nd prepared speech and it was evaluated by Kenady.

151st Meeting

151^st meeting of the Gavel Club was held at 215, Sumanadasa Building on 08/10/2012  and commenced on 5 p.m. 

This was an evening meeting of the club. Toastmaster for the day was Hasitha and the table topics session was conducted by our beloved president Niles. Topics he had for the session were quite carefully crafted to suit the audience. Grammarian for the day was Akalanka. Table topics were evaluated by Damith. He filled the air with his philosophical evaluations of the speeches. Sachille delivered his most anticipated 3^rd prepared speech. And this speech was evaluated by Speech Olympiad winner Pasan Pethiyagoda. He made sure that Sachille will have quite a few tips to improve on carry with him. General evaluator for the day was Amila. He pointed out several things which could have done better to improve the quality of the meeting

150 and still batting…

Life is full of mysteries, that’s what makes our lives lively and enjoyable. These mysteries might manifest themselves as a long unseen friend of yours, your first crush or even something you might not expect. 150^th Gavel meeting was one of these mysterious moments of life, because most of us didn’t expect the meeting during Hands in Hand 2012.

We were enjoying an exciting game hosted by Thenuwan. Suddenly Niles appeared with a mysterious smile and asked us to join him inside the room. Thereafter we were taken through a video; the journey Gavel has embarked on so far.  Then only Niles gave out the surprise; the 150^th Gavel meeting

The meeting started with the National Anthem led by Pasan. Thereafter Gavel president, Niles Perera introduced the ToastMaster for the day and that was our club’s famous Tennis player, Kanna. Next Ah-counter, timer and the grammarian were introduced by the toastmaster; Thushan, Isuru Pasan and Hasini respectively. Kanna came up with a very interesting and burning topic for the day for the round robin session; “Who is the sexiest person in this audience?” After everyone giving their 20 second speeches, Raja and Hasala turned out to be the people who received most votes as the sexiest person.   Then, Sirimevan (Topicsmaster) introduced the topics for the day. These topics were strongly coupled with our bellowed Gavel Club.  Most of the senior Gavel members delivered their marvelous speeches on these topics. Few speakers were, Hasala, Sunera, Harinda, etc. Then, the ah-counters grammarian’s and timer’s reports were delivered. After that meeting came to a conclusion with Kanna‘s final words.

Then the most special moment came. A tasty cake was waiting to celebrate 150^th milestone of the Gavel club. The candles were blown off by the present president.  And the first piece was offered to Niles by the immediate past president, Channa Gunasekara.

149th Meeting

149^th meeting of the Gavel Club was held at 215, Sumanadasa Building on 04/10/2012. Meeting started at 10.16 a.m. 

This was the second Morning meeting of the club. Toastmaster for the day was Amila and the table topics session was conducted by fancy wedding obsessed Sashini. All the members spoke in the table topics session and the evaluations of the table topic speeches was given by Sachille and Akalanka. Then Rukshan Maliq delivered his 2nd prepared speech and it was evaluated by chandima . At the end  a Skill Development session was conducted by Niles .
