Meeting number 83

The meeting was a major success with a record attendance. As i predicted almost 30 students didn't have chairs to sit on and had to stand.

The educational value and the fun was balanced and everything was organized like clock work. Unlike our super junior batch i could feel that the heart beat of these freshers beat synchronously to ours and the club. If we can get some good dedicated members from this batch we could rest assured that we did our part. The future of the club will rest on the shoulders of these freshers. So its our duty to ensure that we cultivate them to bear this responsiblity.

Four Gavelians from our club become the first runner up of the CIMA Global bussiness challenge

A team comprising of the Immediate past president , two Vice Presidents and former CIMA world prize winner all members of the gavel club became the first runner up in the prestigious CIMA global challenge competition.

They were able to beat competition from around the world to secure the second place and bring honor and glory to our country and the gavel Club.
We congratulate them and wish them all the best in their future endeavors!

This goes on to show the importance of communication skills in becoming top achievers.

Orientation for the 09 batch a major success

The orientation for the 2009 Engineering Batch was concluded on a successful note yesterday. Three sessions were conducted within a time of one hour.

The session started with a two minute serious video about the activities of our club prepared by Sasika.
First the club was introduced by the president in convincing style. Then a small game was conducted , where two volunteers were called forward and asked to do a speech on a topic given to them at that moment itself by the game master praveen. After the two speeches were concluded a vote was taken to find the best speaker. Then both volunteers were gifted a box of chocs.
Then a motivational speech was done by ajanthan. It was to make the students understand that this was not an elite club for a few selected, but a club where people who want to learn to speak in English in public get together to improve their speaking and leadership skills. Ajanthan mimicked jamaican , indian and chinese accent to show that we need not be ashamed of the way we speak english. This left the audience in hails of laughter. His speech was inspirational as well as fun.
The session ended with a fun video showcasing all the fun activities we do as the gavel club.

The orientation was a major success(better than the last three that i experienced) so we will have to expect a full house for the meeting on monday. Infact i fear that atleast 300 will be there and that we will face a major logistic issue. incase this happens a backup program will have to be initiated.

www.mrt.ac.lk/gavel

The official website for the Gavel club of University of Moratuwa is now up at www.mrt.ac.lk/gavel. The website is not officially launched as yet, but the most important piece of information about the club, that is when and where the next education session (meeting) is going to be is accurately displayed on the website. If one has missed few sessions and needs to catch up with previous meetings, brief details are also available on the website.

If you are recommending this club to a friend, make sure you mention the website www.mrt.ac.lk/gavel so that he/she could keep in touch with the society events and participate at his/her will.
