148th Meeting

The 148^th meeting of the Gavel Club was held at 215, Sumanadasa Building on  24/09/2012. Meeting commenced at 5.13 p.m. 

After having a morning meeting at the last time members were happy to witness an evening meeting as the members who are having their industrial training were unable to come in the morning session. Toastmaster for the day was Sachille and the table topics session was conducted by Samavath. even though there were some philosophical topics all the members spoke in the session. The evaluations of the table topic speeches was given by Chandima and Akalanka. Then the Winner of Speech Olympiad 2012, Sirimevan Jayasundara delevered his  Ice breaker and Niles evaluated his speech.

147th Gavel Meeting

This was the first ever Morning meeting and was the 3rd meeting held within the time of  the academic strike. Mere strikes could not prevent Gavelliars from continuing the Meetings.

Toastmaster for the day was Akalanka and the table topics session was conducted by Chandima. All the Gavelliars know that these are two of the most funniest persons in the Club. Therefore it was no miracle that the meeting was full of fun. All the members spoke in the table topics session and the evaluations of the table topic speeches was given by Niles and Amila. 

Then Samavath Mallawarachchi presented an introduction about his latest novel "Viyawarthaya" . At the end  a Skill Development session was conducted by Niles and Nirmal .

146th Gavel Meeting

Despite of the academic strike of the lectures in the university, gavel members were enthusiastic to come to witness another interesting meeting. Therefore the 146th Gavel Meeting was organized. 

Toastmaster for the day was Amila Gamage. Then the interesting table topics session was conducted by Akalanka. As always he didn't forget to make this session a very interesting with humor. All the members spoke in the table topics session and Niles along with chathuranga gave some descriptive evaluations about the table topic speeches. 

To the end of the meeting Samavath Mallawarachchi presented an introduction about his latest novel "Viyawarthaya" to fellow gaveliars.

145th Gavel meeting

At last, a Gavel Meeting! After almost 4 months of boredom! It was like a rain drop in a drought to see getting an invitation to the 145^th Gavel meeting. Everyone seemed very excited about the chance they got to meet other fellow Gavellians. 

It was indeed a great day to have the gavel meeting since it’s world forgiveness day. Though the meeting was not crowded as usual, it turned out to be one of the most exciting meetings we ever had.

Table topics session was exciting than a roller-coaster ride. Fun-filled informative speeches flooded the stage. Talented speakers kept the session alive and frisky with their wonderful speeches.

Later, the meeting was embellished by Kennedy with his 6^th Speech ‘I have a dream’. He carried a very profound meaning throughout his speech; Don’t be afraid  to follow your dream.

Before concluding the meeting, Gavellians got the opportunity to witness a session on Negotiation Skills done by Niles and Nirmal. Moreover all of us got to know a technique called “Who’s triangle is it?” 

140th Meeting - Women's Day Meeting

140th Meeting was held on 05/03/2012 at Computer Science Lecture Room. This was the "Women's Day Meeting" of the year.  The meeting was begun at 5.40 p.m. 

Lot of space and opportunities were given to the ladies in this meeting. And the utilized the given opportunities very well to express their thoughts and opinions on burning topics such as Gender equality, How women should be treated in the society, etc. 

Toastmaster for the day was Sandareka Wickramanayake. Then the interesting table topics session in the theme Women’s day was conducted by Nirmala.  Pasan Pethiyagoda delivered his 5th  speech in the CC manual and Dinesh Kenady evaluated his speech. Hasini Abeywikrama  was the general evaluator for the day. Members enjoyed expressing their views in different ways about Ladies in this meeting.
