135th Gavel Meeting

The 135^th Gavel Meeting was held on 29^th December at 5.00 pm onwards at Hall 215, Sumanadasa Building.  This was a new form of meeting. It was named as “Speech Marathon Meeting” where only prepared speeches were delivered.   8 members delivered their projects as follows.

Hansani                - Ice breaker

Pasan                    - 4^th project – “Baka Baka”

Dilhasha               - Ice breaker

Hasini                    - Rs 100/= and pink lipstick

Niles                      - 8^th project -“The hub”

Visal                       - Ice breaker

Amjath                 -2^nd project- “Perseverance”

Charitha               - Ice breaker 

This was a novel experience for the members where they had a chance to witness a bunch of great prepared speeches. Each and every speech had reached great heights in terms of their quality. It was great chance to gain experiences what are different aspects that can be used to add a value to a speech for those who were planning to take part in Speech Olympiad VI. A fun game conducted by Hasitha was able to bring more fun to the place. After the speech marathon two project co-chairs of the Speech Olympiad were called to explain the task allocation of the event. After that the meeting was called to order by the president Niles Perera.

Christmas meeting - 134th Gave meeting

134^th Gavel meeting was held at 5 p.m onwards on 22^nd of December at CSLR- Department of CSE. Gavel never let any special day in the year calendar to go without celebrating.  This was one such day. The Gavel Christmas Meeting.

Even the invitation for the meeting was different. Members were asked to come on a dress code red and white. The room was filled with junior, senior and former members. The meeting was called to order by the president, Niles Perera. Then the special toastmaster for the day was introduced, Nirmal Silva. Who have took tremendous effort to find a red shirt. And he emerged from the rest due to his dress. He conducted the round robin session on the topic “What is the thought we should get into our hearts in this Christmas season?”  . Different views were popped up where Hasitha decorated the session by stunning vocals. 

Then time was to table topic session. Giving a surprise to everyone Santa had come all way to our meeting to conduct the table topic session with bunch of chocolates. Every speaker was given a chocolate. So no special evidence is needed to say that audience was really persuaded to come to the stage. No one in the audience would forget that session forever because it was that much interesting. Erangi and Channa gave very descriptive evaluations to the speakers. Next came prepared speech session. 

Sashini Hapuarchchi broke her ice in a fantastic way. According to the evaluator, Eshan it was at first 3 ice breakers of the club. 

This meeting became more special because of the impressive carols presented by a group of Catholic Society fellows.   They were truly amazing and added a real value to the occasion. After the meeting was adjourned by the president audience was offered a delicious treatment.

133rd Meeting

The 133^rd Gavel Meeting was held on 15^th December at 5.00 pm onwards at Hall 215, Sumanadasa Building.

As the normal proceeding the meeting was called to order by the President, Niles Perera. Round robin session was conducted n the topic “How to defend your dreams.” Table topic session was quite interesting as topics consisted on arguable topics such as “Role of a Working woman”. This meeting marked a special day of Maurya’s Gavel journey as he completed his first project out of ten in the Competent Communicator Manual. We were able to get to know him inside-out. Then the project co-chairs of the most anticipated event in the Gavel calendar, Speech Olympiad VI were introduced by the president. They were the last time champion Pasan Pethiyagoda and 1^st runner-up Hasini Abeywickrama. After giving a brief introduction about the event, they described task allocation for each subcommittee. At last they requested everyone to give their fullest support make Speech Olympiad-2012 a big success. Finally the 133^rd meeting was adjourned by the president.

128th Meeting

The 128^th meeting was another milestone of the Gavel Club on its way. On that day Gavel family warmly welcomed the new members of it, ’11 batch students. The meeting was held at 5.00 pm at CSE Tutorial room on 08^th of November 2011. It was the inaugural meeting for ’11 batch. The room was packed with new comers. All of them were really enthusiastic to get to know how a gavel meeting would be preceded.

Due to the huge gathering conducting the round robin session in the usual way was not possible. Therefore it was held as a game and all of us enjoyed every bit of it. Then began the grand show of the day: Table Topic Session. It was amazing to see how new comers grab each and every chance to raise their voices. The audience was enriched with different views and thoughts. Topics Master would have done a great job in selecting such an array of topics that everyone was encouraged to talk. Unfortunately this session had to be closed because we were running out of time. Then the prepared speech session was supposed to be held. New comers were really impressed by a fabulous speech done by Hasini Abeywickrama, 1^strunner up Speech Olympiad 2010. No doubts it would be a model speech and would let the new comers to realize which kind of speakers gavel is producing. After all a memorable meeting was adjourned by the president Niles Perera. 

127th Meeting

127^th Meeting – Gavel Club

127^th Gavel meeting was held at 5 p.m onwards on 3^rd of November at CSLB- Department of TLM. It was another remarkable day in the Gavel calendar. Orientation Program ’11 of the club was successfully held on that day for the newly taken batch of faculty of Engineering.

The round robin session was on the most popular topic of the younger generation: “How to ask out from your dream girl / boy”. No special evidence would be necessary to prove that it was an enjoyable session. Then the time was to conduct the table topic session. After that an active ’10 gravellier Sachille Athapaththu broke his ice at the Gavel Club letting the audience to get know about him well. It was followed by a marvelous speech presented by Mr. President, Niles Perera. It was his 7^th project in the Competitive Communication manual.

After presenting all the reports for the day the meeting was called for the end by the President, Niles Perera.
